Alexander Nübel has acknowledged that he has no chance of becoming Bayern München's first-choice goalkeeper as long as Manuel Neuer is playing at his current level.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who left Bayern to join Monaco on a two-year loan deal last summer, told Sport1 podcast 'Meine Bayern-Woche':

"He was and is the best goalkeeper in the world. He's simply a legend.

"I'm giving everything I've got, and I believe I'll be number one at FC Bayern at some point.

"But as long as he is the best goalkeeper and the better goalkeeper for Bayern München, then he will play. Then I wouldn't have a chance in two, three or 10 years."

Rumors that Manuel Neuer is set to extend his contract by two years until 2025 has led to speculation about Nübel's future at the Bavarian club. At the moment, however, the 25-year-old is just taking one day at a time.

"I don't know what will happen in one or two years. I'm happy where I am currently. I can't influence these things anyway, and therefore I don't want to talk about."
