"We certainly had our worst performance of the season over the whole game and lacked all of our usual qualities," Kimmich told reporters.
"If this kind of thing happens once a season, that's fine. But it's happening to us more often than that at the moment. We have to be careful. It has more to do with the way we approach the game. We were even 1-0 up and then we concede four goals within 20, 25 minutes.
"Everyone has to ask themselves whether they gave their all. That shouldn't happen to us at this level, not on this scale. Bochum didn't do badly. We have to admit that we deserved to lose."
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann echoed the words of Kimmich.
"Congratulations to Bochum, they played well, it was a deserved win. It was a rubbish game, we shouldn't have allowed that to happen to us," said Nagelsmann.
"We played very poorly in the first half. Our plan didn't work. We should have reacted earlier, as we did in the second half. After their two wonder goals it was difficult, goals aren't scored like that every day.
"In the first half, we were just too passive. The result in the first half was deserved. In the second half, we were better, except for the first few minutes. If we'd scored earlier in the second half, it might have got exciting again. In the end, it's a deserved win for Bochum."
