Report: Mario Götze set to leave Dortmund if Lucien Favre stays on as coach

Mario Götze could leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 as he's not happy with his situation at the club.
Mario Götze is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2020 if Lucien Favre remains coach of the club, according to Sport Bild.

Götze and Dortmund have been in talks about a potential extension of his contract, which runs out at the end of the season, but the parties have decided to postpone further negotiations until 2020.

The 27-year-old is understood to be unhappy with his current substitute role under Lucien Favre and will most likely depart the club if the 62-year-old, who is under contract until 2021, continues his tenure as coach.

Another potential snag is that Götze would have to take a pay cut to extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park. Borussia Dortmund are willing to offer Götze, who currently earns an annual salary of €10 million, a new contract worth €7,5 million a year, as per Sport Bild.

If Götze indeed leaves Dortmund, he could reportedly imagine moving abroad to join a club in one of Europe's other top leagues.
