Gomez leaves Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg have reportedly sold Mario Gomez who will go back to his old club.
The experienced striker Mario Gomez will leave Wolfsburg to join his former club VfB Stuttgart.

Gomez has signed a contract until 2020. Both clubs have confirmed the deal.

According to Bild, Stuttgart has paid €3 million to acquire the services of the German international.

"In the latest weeks, my wish of going back to my home town and to take advantage of the opportunity of doing it this winter has grown stronger. Therefore, I thank the responsible at VfL that didn't stand in my way," Gomez told Wolfsburg's website.

"Of course you're unwilling to let a world class striker such as Mario go. But I respect his decision, and I wish him the best in the future," Wolfsburg coach Martin Schmidt said to the club's website.

Stuttgart recently sold Simon Terodde to FC Köln, and Gomez seems to be brought in as a replacement.

Time will tell if Wolfsburg have a new striker lined up to replace Gomez who has started nine Bundesliga games for the club this season.

32-year-old Gomez played for Stuttgart from 2003 to 2009 when he made the switch to Bayern München. After spells at Fiorentina and Besiktas, he was signed by Wolfsburg in the summer of 2016.
