A new crop of phenoms will be needed. It is thus reasonable to assume that, as has been the case in the past 18 months, a great deal of administrative vigor is being expended on the Isle.
Sources at Germany's main sporting tabloid have some insider knowledge via connections to the club's scouts. Earlier in the year, Sport Bild reported the procural of Manchester City's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens some weeks before the deal went through.
The latest name to crop up in the newspaper's pages is that of recent Aston Villa debutant Carney Chukwuemeka. The 17-year-old recently debuted for the crosstown rivals of the same city from which Dortmund plucked Jude Bellingham last year earlier this week.
Like Bellingham, Aston Villa's attacking midfield prospect is known as an excellent box-to-box talent with a central midfield focus. The report emphasizes that he would command a €15 million transfer fee.
Though that is no small amount, it remains significantly less than what die Schwarzgelben paid for Bellingham last year. Possible impediments to the deal include Villa's potential qualification next year and the possibility that Chukwuemeka could be explicitly guaranteed starts by his current club.
