Weinzierl criticizes Schalke's playing style after horror start

Former Schalke 04 coach Markus Weinzierl has criticized his former club after the disappointing start to the season.
Domenico Tedesco's Schalke 04 side have had a terrible start to the season, losing all four Bundesliga games so far.

Back in the 2016/17 season, 'The Royal Blues' started by losing the opening five Bundesliga games under Markus Weinzierl who says it's extremely hard to bounce back afterwards.

"It's incredibly difficult to get back on track. This is a mortgage for the entire season. You're always in catch-up mode and can't allow yourself to lose again," the former Schalke coach told Sport.de.

Weinzierl also said he believes Schalke's playing style is too defensive and seemingly questioned 36-year-old Naldo's huge role in the team.

"It's the question if it's promising for the future to only think defensively or to tailor your style of play to a 36-year-old," Weinzierl said.

Schalke will be eager to take their first win of the season away at Freiburg tomorrow evening.
