Official: Sesko signs new contract with Leipzig

RB Leipzig have fended off interest in Benjamin Sesko by extending the striker's contract until 2029.

Benjamin Sesko has been linked with a number of top clubs in recent months, but has now put an end to speculation about his immediate future by extending his contract with RB Leipzig.

Die Roten Bullen confirmed the extension of the Slovenian striker's contract until 2029 on Wednesday morning.

"Benjamin Sesko joined RB Leipzig a year ago as a top talent and has developed exceptionally well with us," said RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder.

“Especially in the second half of the season, Benji showed how important he is for our game and how many qualities he has as a complete striker. Eleven goals in the second half of the season and recently scored in seven games in a row: That's an outstanding rate and shows that he's already one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga - and he's only 21 years old.”

Sesko said he's "incredibly happy" to be playing for Leipzig.

"The team, the club, the city, the fans - the whole package remains outstanding for me. The contract extension is the logical step for me.

“Even though I didn't play as much and didn't score as many goals in the first half of the season, this phase was very important for me and my development. I feel a lot of trust and appreciation from the whole club and that is crucial for me to perform at my best. Especially in the second half of the season I was able to give something back with my goals,” he added.

“We have a team with great potential and a balanced mix of young and experienced players. I really want to take the next steps with this team. We have already achieved a lot in my first season and have often shown the quality and outstanding football we can put on the pitch. But there is still a lot to do and that is now our common goal.”

Sesko scored 18 goals in 42 matches for Leipzig in the 2023/24 season.
