Xabi Alonso "happy" to take one point from Bayern clash

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was "happy" with the point his side earned against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso's usually dominant Bayer Leverkusen were pushed far back on the pitch against Bayern Munich on Saturday, where they held out for a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said he was "happy" with the point.

"You have to sacrifice a lot against Bayern. We had a few problems. We played very seriously and are happy with the point," said Xabi Alonso in a post-match interview.

"We needed this game at the Allianz Arena. Bayern are in very good form. We don't usually play like that, but maybe it was better today. We've had some defensive problems until today. Now we need a bit of balance on and off the ball.

“It was very tough today. The whole team did very well. We hardly had a chance to breathe. But I'm very proud of my players.”

The draw leaves Bayer Leverkusen in third place, three points behind Bayern Munich.
