The reported upon loan-out of surprise German "late-bloomer" Janis Blaswich to RB Salzburg was confirmed late yesterday. The 33-year-old former BMG academy keeper will head to Leipzig's sister club for the season, clearing the way for the soon-to-arrive Belgian youth international Maarten Vandevoordt to serve as Peter Gulacsi's #2.

Blaswich - who made his top flight German debut only last year - performed so well that there was some talk of Gulacsi leaving the club during the most recent transfer window. Blaswich led Leipzig to DFB Pokal and DFL Supercup victories and was even called up to Julian Nagelsmann's German national team last November.

Blaswich was given the #1 tricot and is expected to earn playing time with the Austrian Red Bulls. Salzburg recently confirmed the release of former 1. FC Köln regular Timo Horn, who ended up serving only six months with the club after arriving on a free in January. Horn couldn't displace Alexander Schlager, who is himself currently injured.

"Despite many inquiries from home and abroad, the Salzburg package was the best deal for all parties," Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder noted in a statement, "Janis will play there regularly, including internationally. The conditions and the environment are top notch - both for and for his family. After Pete's serious injury, he immediately stepped up to the top level. Janis was one of the guarantors of the successes we've celebrated."

"It was an outstanding time at RB Leipzig and I really enjoyed fighting for titles together with the team and the fans," Blaswich himself added, "Accordingly, the DFB Cup and Super Cup victories were of course the absolute highlights and these successes will always remain with me. My family and I quickly felt extremely at home in Leipzig - I'm very grateful for that."
