Neuer talks retirement and possible move abroad

In a recent interview, Manuel Neuer was asked if he's thinking about retiring from football and if a move abroad might be on the cards.

At the age of 38, Manuel Neuer is in the autumn of his footballing career, but the Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper insists he's not considering retiring at the moment.

"To be honest, I don't even think about quitting. I think it would inhibit me and put pressure on me to keep reminding myself: Oh, this could be your last tournament," Neuer told Die Welt ahead of Germany's Euro 2024 quarterfinal against Spain on Friday.

"That wouldn't be good for me psychologically. That's why I'm looking forward to every game, like the one against Spain, which is a really big one."

When it comes to a possible move abroad, the United States seems to be the most likely destination for the veteran.

“Although you should never say never, I would not move to Saudi Arabia or Qatar. If anything, the MLS would be an option. I talked to Bastian Schweinsteiger, who played there, about it. But you have to think about it very carefully. Also because they play a lot on artificial turf, which is not ideal for a goalkeeper.”

Neuer's contract with Bayern runs until 2025.
