Flick discusses decision to leave Hummels out of his squad

Mats Hummels has been left out of Hansi Flick's Germany squad once again. "Mats himself has said that he's working to get back to 100 percent, and we as a coaching team see that the same way," says Flick.

Germany coach Hansi Flick has explained why he hasn't included Borussia Dortmund veteran Mats Hummels in his squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Armenia.

"I'm always in close communication with Mats and with his coach Marco Rose as well. Mats himself has said that he's working to get back to 100 percent, and we as a coaching team see that the same way," said Flick, according to Kicker.

"During the two weeks, where he will not have a break, he will be able to focus on his training, which is important. He's played a lot of games and needs to regenerate and recharge his batteries a bit."

Hummels was not included in Flick's squad for last month's games either.
