Bayern did all they could to convince Alaba to sign a new deal, but ultimately couldn't stop the 29-year-old from making the switch to Madrid.
According to Rummenigge, Alaba's departure hasn't been compensated for yet.
"What is noticeable is that there is a lack of stability, especially in central defense. The defensive organizer is missing. Unfortunately, he was transferred to Real Madrid," Rummenigge told Sky Germany and added:
"David Alaba was always a very important man for FC Bayern in the role as defensive organizer, also in the dressing room.
"Basically, I think everyone at Bayern is unanimous in the opinion that it would have been better if this departure hadn't taken place."
