Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has poured cold water on a Kicker report claiming that Florian Wirtz's contract with the club has been extended beyond 2027.

“It's a shame, I would have been happy if Kicker had been right. They reported something that wasn't true,” Carro told Sky Germany on Saturday.

On the possibility of extending Wirtz's contract, Carro added:

“We want Florian to play for us for as long as possible. Definitely until the World Cup in 2026, to keep him next season would be nice. Obviously, that is more likely to happen if we extend his contract. That's why we want to extend it.”

Wirtz rounded off 2024 in style, scoring once and providing three assists in Leverkusen's 5-1 thrashing of Freiburg on Saturday.
