Pedri pips Bellingham to Golden Boy award

Barcelona's Pedri has pipped Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, Bayern München's Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz to the 2021 Golden Boy award.
Three Bundesliga players made the top five in the voting for the 2021 Golden Boy Award given to the best player under 21 in Europe by Italian outlet Tuttosport.

Barcelona midfielder Pedri has been crowned with the award, with Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, Bayern München's Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz coming in second, third and fourth, respectively. Pedri's teammate Gavi finished fifth.

"It is a deserved triumph. The Canarian boy, who succeeds the Norwegian Erling Haaland, has beaten the competition by some distance," said Tuttusport director Xavier Jacobelli.

"Of the forty journalists who vote, representing the most illustrious newspapers of our continent, 24 placed him in first place of their preferences, another nine in second position and three in third."
