Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s decision to recall Leroy Sané to his squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia raised some eyebrows.

But the Galatasaray winger silenced his critics in Monday’s 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia, scoring a brace and assisting Assan Ouedraogo’s goal.

After the match, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich praised Sané, highlighting the qualities that make him such an asset.

“Leroy is probably physically stronger than any other player I know. He can run, sprint, and perform at this level every three days,” Kimmich said in the mixed zone.

“We need to ensure he’s mentally ready for that, because when he is, you really see what he’s capable of.

"Tonight he had an outstanding game, rewarded himself with two goals, and was also very effective in the counter-press, showing everything we wanted to see.”
