Marco Rose: "That's a massive blow"

Getting knocked out of the Champions League is "a massive blow" for Dortmund, concedes head coach Marco Rose.
Borussia Dortmund were eliminated from the Champions League last night as they fell to disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sporting CP.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Dortmund coach Marco Rose admitted that his side's elimination is a "massive blow".

"It's a horrible defeat. Our aim was to be in all three competitions next year. Now we've been knocked out of the Champions League. That's a massive blow," said Rose.

"It's simple to say but if we couldn't be more uncompromising and couldn't play with more conviction then the defeat was deserved. We gave so little away, but at the same time it's too easy for opponents to score against us. Tonight our opponents were more uncompromising and clinical than we were."

Dortmund were without a number of key players, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Mats Hummels and Rafael Guerreiro all missing out, but Rose refused to blame the defeat on injuries.

"This isn't the time to talk about injuries or whose missing. We came here to win and to reach the knockout stages. We created more pressure with 10 men than we did with 11. I expect that from the first whistle. We now have to work on being more uncompromising and clinical," said the BVB coach.
