Report: Clubs cooled interest in Weghorst due to vaccine stance

Bild reports that several clubs cooled interest in Wout Weghorst before his move to Burnley because the striker is not vaccinated against coronavirus.

Earlier today, Wout Weghorst left VfL Wolfsburg for a move to England, signing a deal with Burnley FC until 2025.

According to Bild, Weghorst attracted interest from other clubs from England, Italy and Spain as well, but they refrained from going any further because the Dutchman isn't vaccinated against COVID-19.

In December last year, Weghorst caused a stir for spreading skepticism about vaccines on Instagram. He later deleted the post and apologized, stating:

"I know many people who have been infected with the coronavirus, and therefore I know exactly what its effects are and how dangerous it can be.

"I merely wanted to point out that with this issue, as with all others in general, you should educate yourself as much as possible and listen to as many different opinions as possible."

The 29-year-old was infected with coronavirus earlier this season and spent two weeks in isolation back in October.
