Gvardiol own goal seals dramatic Bayern win over Leipzig
Josko Gvardiol's own goal was the difference as Bayern München beat RB Leipzig 3-2 in a dramatic game.
Bayern München ran out winners by 3-2 against RB Leipzig in an entertaining and close affair at Allianz Arena on Saturday evening.
It was the home side, who opened the scoring with 13 minutes on the clock as Thomas Müller tapped in after Peter Gulacsi had parried a shot from Robert Lewandowski.
Leipzig kept looking threatening at the other end and were rewarded for their efforts just shy of the half hour mark. Konrad Laimer's chipped finish was heading beyond the far post, but André Silva was in the right place at the right time, putting the ball over the line.
Kingsley Coman nearly made it 2-1 in the 35th minute as his cross nearly sailed into the net, but Peter Gulacsi managed to turn the ball onto the far post.
Two minutes later, Bayern thought they had retaken the lead when Thomas Müller headed the ball past Gulacsi, but the goal was overturned by VAR as Robert Lewandowski was adjudged to have fouled Josko Gvardiol in the build-up.
Bayern did end up getting that second goal before half-time, though, as Robert Lewandowski nodded in a perfect cross from Coman with 44 minutes on the clock.
Leipzig, however, refused to lie down and equalised again through Christopher Nkunku in the 54th minute. The Frenchman just managed to beat the offside trap, latching on to Konrad Laimer's perfect pass before ruthlessly sending the ball past Neuer.
But just as in the first half, Bayern struck back and restored their lead, this time through Josko Gvardiol, who deflected a Serge Gnabry cross into his own net.
The away side did what they could to bounce back for the third time, but Bayern managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle.
With their win, league leaders Bayern are now nine points clear of Borussia Dortmund, who face Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow. RB Leipzig sit seventh.
