Confirmed: Spartak thrown out of Europa League, Leipzig advance automatically

UEFA has confirmed that RB Leipzig are automatically qualified to the quarterfinals of the Europa League as Spartak Moscow have been removed from the tourmanent.

RB Leipzig's Europa League last-16 clash against Spartak Moscow has officially been canceled.

FIFA and UEFA have announced today that all Russian teams have been suspended until further notice due to Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Therefore, RB Leipzig will receive automatic entry into the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

"The UEFA Europa League matches between RB Leipzig and FC Spartak Moskva cannot take place, and, as a consequence, RB Leipzig are qualified to the quarter-finals of the competition," said UEFA in a satement.

"Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people affected in Ukraine. Both Presidents hope that the situation in Ukraine will improve significantly and rapidly so that football can again be a vector for unity and peace amongst people."
