Report: Schlager's exit clause totals €40 million

The specific amount of VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Xaver Schlager's exit clause has leaked out.
According to regional Westphalian newspaper "Ruhrnachrichten", the hitherto unspecified amount of VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Xaver Schlager's exit clause totals some €40 million. At that price, it doesn't appear as if even a club soon to be as flush with transfer cash as Borussia Dortmund will consider a duel feasible.

The RN report goes on to note that the Schlager remains Dortmund's "Plan B" for a midfield reinforcement to replace Axel Witsel. The paper notes that Schlager's fellow Austrian international--Konrad Laimer of RB Leipzig--remains the club's primary target. The BVB nevertheless faces stiff competition from German giants FC Bayern München, who want Laimer for themselves.

RN specifically states that Laimer might be leaning in the direction of the FCB.
