Long linked with a return to the Bundesliga, it appears as if former Mainz player and trainer Sandro Schwarz may have found the right open door. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the 43-year-old tops the list of head-coaching candidates at Hertha BSC.

Hertha have not officially secured Bundesliga football for next year, but, with a four-point advantage over VfB Stuttgart in the final safe table slot, many are assuming that the capital city's Charlottenburg side will clinch class preservation even with a loss this weekend.

Felix Magath's appointment as the club's third trainer this season was never considered more than a rescue mission. "Die alte Dame" thus remains in the market for a new gaffer ahead of the next campaign.

Schwarz, unlike some of his other counterparts working in Russia, has not resigned from his club in the wake of the country's incursion into Ukraine. Schwarz's Dynamo Moscow are currently second in the RPL table and have made it through to the cup semi-finals.

Kicker reports that club sporting CEO Fredi Bobic has already received several definite "no answers" from prospective candidates for the position. These include current RB Leipzig trainer Domenico Tedesco, former BVB interim trainer Edin Terzic, former Eintracht/Bayern head-coach Niko Kovac.
