Mintzlaff reacts to RB Leipzig's Europa League exit: "We expected much more of ourselves"

RB Leipzig's performance against Rangers "wasn't good enough for the semi-final of a European competition," said club boss Oliver Mintzlaff.
RB Leipzig were dumped out of the Europa League by Rangers last night, losing 3-1 in the semi-final second leg and 3-2 on aggregate.

Speaking to RTL in a post-match interview, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff expressed his disappointment with the performance and the result.

He also congratulated Eintracht Frankfurt, who beat West Ham 1-0 (3-1 on aggregate) in the other semi-final.

"It wasn't good enough for the semi-final of a European competition. First and foremost I'd like to congratulate Rangers and Frankfurt – at least one German team is in the final. But we have to accept that our performance wasn't good enough. We expected much more of ourselves," said Mintzlaff.

"We knew what to expect, but experiencing this kind of atmosphere in person is something different. This is part of a recent negative trend and it's come at the worst time in the final stretch.

"Of course we hoped to achieve more than we have, tonight is huge disappointment, but there's no shame in being knocked out in the semi-finals," emphasized the RB Leipzig chief.
