Fabian Klos extends his Bielefeld fairy-tale
Fabian Klos has announced this afternoon in a video posted on Arminia Bielefeld’s Twitter page that he will remain at the club for the upcoming season. The Arminia ‘Fußballgott’ had previously told fans in February of this year that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract but has today performed a sensational U—turn to remain at the club beyond the end of the current season, much to the delight of the Bielefeld faithful.

In an Arminia Bielefeld club statement, sporting managing director Samir Arabi stated "We have had very intensive talks with Fabian over the last few days and together we have come to the decision that this should not be the end for him at Arminia.” It was the wish of both the club and the player to ensure that Klos be granted the opportunity of a proper farewell with the club next season, of which he would’ve been denied this season as he recovers from a serious head injury sustained against VfB Stuttgart. Klos has put pen to paper on a one year deal that will take him to the end of the 2022/23 season. Arminia posted this quote from Klos on Instagram “In your footballing life, you only fall in love once. And that’s how it is for me and Arminia.”
With a worse goal difference and three points less than Stuttgart, Arminia look set to drop out of the Bundesliga with a tough game up against RB Leipzig on Saturday. However, today’s news will give the fans a real boost ahead of the next season as they will have the chance to see their captain and local legend for one last season in the blue, white and black. Klos scored 21 goals in the 2. Bundesliga in 2019-20 which propelled the club to the dizzy heights of the Bundesliga where they have remained for two seasons.

It’s unclear as of yet how Klos will feature next season, but one thing is for sure, his leadership and passion for the club he has served for the last eleven years will be a massive help for next season if the club are to mount a promotion charge. It seems that Klos feels that he has some unfinished business with the club and isn’t ready to leave just yet. Arminia Bielefeld’s impending relegation to the second division could have also played a part in the decision for both the club and the player to extend his stay beyond this season.
