Bayern youngster opts to play for the United States instead of Germany
Malik Tillman will play for the United States instead of Germany in the future.
19-year-old FC Bayern midfielder Malik Tillman has switched allegiance from Germany to the United States.
Tillman was not included in Germany's U21 squad for the upcoming fixtures against Hungary and Poland, with the reason being that he has decided to play for the United States in the future.
"We regret Malik's decision. It surprised us a lot," Germany U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo told Kicker and added:
"We promoted him as a younger player in the U21s, showed him a lot of confidence and gave him playing time.
"In addition, we were in intensive exchange regarding his prospects in the senior national team."
After playing for the United States U15 national team, Tillman went on to represent Germany at all youth levels. He made his debut for Germany's U21 team in October 2021.
