RB Leipzig have been in great form lately and are currently sitting third in the Bundesliga.
According to the club's sporting director and head coach Ralf Rangnick, one of the main factors behind the recent success is that his philosophy isn't as based on possession as it used to be.
"At the World Cup, everybody could see how difficult it is to win against deep-sitting opponents. This has often happened to us. It doesn't help to have a lot of possession. In my opinion, it's a mistake to think that you can only control the game if you have the ball. It's often the other way around," Rangnick told Sport Bild and added:
"Our research has shown that the likelihood of scoring a goal rapidly decreases the longer a team is in possession. We use this insight."
Rangnick will serve as RB Leipzig's head coach until Julian Nagelsmann arrives from Hoffenheim next summer.
