Tah: 'Boateng has always been a role model for me'
Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah says he looks up to Jerome Boateng and that he's honored to be compared to the Bayern München defender.
Jerome Boateng is not in the squad for Germany's upcoming games against Russia and the Netherlands after agreeing with German national team coach Joachim Löw that a break would be good for him.
Does that mean that Boateng's international career is nearing its end? No, says Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah who is among the alternatives to the 30-year-old.
"I don't think so. I have great respect for Jerome. He has always been a role model for me. Nevertheless, I would like to take my chance if I get it in the next games," Tah told Sportbuzzer.
Tah has been compared to the experienced Bayern defender, and that makes him proud.
"If I was offered the opportunity to get a career like his, I would take it immediately. I would also happily take his collection of titles, but maybe add a couple of titles more (laughs). It honors me to be compared to him, even if I want to go my own way," Tah said.
Tah, 22, has made three appearances for Germany so far.
