Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel has admitted that Moussa Niakhaté is expected to leave club this summer.

"We're expecting Moussa to leave," Heidel stated in an interview with Bild.

According to a recent report from The Athletic, Nottingham Forest have opened talks to sign the Mainz captain, who has also been linked with the likes of West Ham, Everton and Newcastle.

"It's quiet on our side, but I don't assume that it's as quiet with Moussa's agent," said Heidel.

Mainz are reportedly hoping to get around €12 million for the centre-back, whose contract expires in 2023.
