With the new Bundesliga season just around the corner, we are ready to give you a helping hand with your Fantasy Bundesliga team.

In this article, we take a look at the defenders you should have on your radar when you put together your squad.

Budget options:

Mitchell Weiser (Werder Bremen, 3M)
Costing just 3 million, Weiser is arguably the best enabler in the game. The former Bayern, Hertha and Leverkusen player is nailed on to play as a right wing-back and is coming off a goal against Energie Cottbus in the cup.

Josha Vagnoman (Stuttgart, 5M)
You might want to steer clear of Vagnoman for Matchday 1 because of Stuttgart's tough match-up against Leipzig, but he's definitely a player to keep an eye out for. Signed from Hamburger SV, the German U21 international has plenty of attacking prowess and looks set to start as a right wing-back for Stuttgart.

Niko Giesselmann (Union Berlin, 7M)
Playing as a left wing-back, Giesselmann racked up three goals and seven assists for Union Berlin last season. With 'Die Eisernen' opening the season as favorites against crisis-hit local rivals Hertha BSC, he should provide good value for money.

Mid-range options:

Aaron Martin (Mainz, 8M)
Another popular Fantasy Bundesliga pick last season, Aaron is also much more expensive this time around. Although Aaron will face competition from new signing Anthony Caci this season, the Spaniard should start at least the first few games, as the Frenchman needs time to gain fitness after an injury. And being the set piece taker for a Mainz side with a nice run of fixtures, Aaron should remain a solid Fantasy asset from the start of the season.

Thomas Meunier (Dortmund, 8M)
Meunier is back in shape after an injury-riddled 2021/22 campaign and looks set to start as a right-back for Dortmund. With a price of just 8 million, he offers a cheap way into Dortmund's backline and is capable of chipping in with both goals and assists at the same time.

Benjamin Henrichs (RB Leipzig, 9M)
Henrichs has grown in importance for Leipzig since Domenico Tedesco replaced Jesse Marsch as coach in December. Because of their impressive squad depth, Die Roten Bullen's starting line-up can be quite hard to predict at times, but the versatile Henrichs, who can play both on the right and left side of defence, looks like a certain starter for Matchday 1, with Nordi Mukiele having left to join PSG, Angelino heading for the exit door and David Raum probably in need of some time to adjust to his new surroundings.

Premium options:

Nico Schlotterbeck (Dortmund, 12M)
Schlotterbeck was the game's highest-scoring defender last season, amassing 265 points through the 2021/22 campaign. While it remains to be seen how his move from Freiburg to Dortmund will affect his Fantasy output, it's safe to assume that he will remain a very good option.

Christian Günter (Freiburg, 12M)
The second-highest scoring defender last season, Günter certainly also deserves a mention. Apart from their Matchday two clash with Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg have a quite favorable schedule, but it looks like Günter will play as a full-back rather than in a more advanced wing-back role, at least in the opener against Augsburg.

Alphonso Davies (Bayern, 15M)
Davies is expensive, but certainly worth his price tag when he's at his best. Going into Matchday 1 without the Canadian left-back as your star man in defence would be a very risky decision.
