Report: Freiburg not finished with summer transfers quite yet

Per Sport Bild, Freiburg are rumored to have set aside €5 million in order to find themselves a new defensive midfielder.
SC Freiburg have focused on solidifying their defensive and attacking play this summer with the arrivals of Matthias Ginter, Ritsu Doan and Michael Gregoritsch. Daniel Kofi-Kyereh was brought from St. Pauli to play in the no. 10 role, but they still lack depth in defensive midfield.

Nicolas Höfler is 32 and Freiburg are now realizing they must start preparing for the future. They also face a daunting task of 3 different competitions this year and while Yannik Keitel can play in the position, he can be injury prone.

If these plans push forward, Freiburg may look to find a solution similar to Maximilian Eggestein's transfer in the summer of last year. Freiburg realized they could take advantage of Werder Bremen's relegation and bring in a dependable Bundesliga player for just €5 million.

Freiburg require a defensive midfielder who's ready to play right away, as they come to terms that club legend Nicolas Höfler won't be around forever after all.
