Both Germany's main sporting tabloid and its preeminent footballing publication currently report that VfB Stuttgart are in talks to bring in Austrian Bundesliga veteran Mërgim Berisha as Sasa Kalajdzic's replacement.

With an agreement to sell striker Sasa Kalajdzic in place, VfB Stuttgart appear set to strike a deal to bring additional attacking assistance in quickly before the transfer window closes. Not having Kalajdzic as an option against Köln this weekend, VfB trainer Pellegrino Matarazzo deployed newly acquired striker Luca Pfeiffer in Kalajdzic's place in the starting XI.

Unfortunately, both Pfeiffer and his coach were sent off by match official Harm Osmers during Saturday's draw in the cathedral city. On Monday, the DFB confirmed a three-match ban for Pfeiffer, meaning that the Swabians will need immediate help on the top axis. Germany's Kicker magazine and Sport Bild report that the BaWü club is in talks with Fenerbahçe to sign German forward Mërgim Berisha.

The Germany U21 youth international has often been a topic at several Bundesliga clubs. Apart from a brief stint at 1. FC Magdeburg, however, much of Berisha's career has been spent in Austrian football. The former Red Bull Salzburg, FC Liefering, and SC Rheindorf Altach striker flirted with a move to the Bundesliga last autumn before ultimately moving to Turkey on deadline day.

Berisha scored eight goals and chipped in three assists in 32 appearances for his Istanbul-based club last season. His current contract in the S¨per Big runs through 2025. The 24-year-old maintains an estimated €6 million worth in the latest transfermarkt listings.
