Reports: Man City consider €17.5 million Akanji purchase

All major German footballing media outlets are currently confirming a report initially appearing in "The Athletic" claiming that Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji may be on verge of joining Manchester City.

According to online sports journal, "The Athletic", Manchester City are prepared to take disaffected Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji off the BVB's hands. German broadcaster Sport1 confirms this report while other German footballing media sources say there is interest, but that the deal may still fall through due to the transfer fee.

The 27-year-old Swiss international maintains an estimated market worth of €30 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. Given some of the player's injury and form issues over the last two years, however, this is not a sum even a wealthy club such as Man City are willing to pay.

The sum thus being discussed is around €17.5 million. The Athletic does report that the two sides are "far along" in negotiations and that a medical could be scheduled soon.
