After confirming that he had firmly decided on a departure last month, it looks to be the case that Brazilian attacker Paulinho has found a club in his native country that he would like to play for in the future. Brazil's Globo Esporte reports that the 22-year-old is on the verge of signing with Belo Horizonte's Atlético Mineiro. Both the German and Brazilian club are interested in finalizing a transfer as soon as possible.

The one-time €18.5 million transfer remains contractually bound to Bayer through January of 2024. Whilst making his decision to leave German football public in late October, Paulinho declared that he would at least sign a pre-contract to play for a new club once his current contract expires.

Obviously, Germany's red company team would prefer to get him off the roster and secure a small transfer fee for the disaffected player. Paulinho's current estimated market value stands at €7 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. At the time of his transfer from CR Vasco de Gama in 2018, Leverkusen reportedly secured an expensive exit clause for his contract.

This would have to be waived for a deal to be concluded.
