Report: Gladbach have eyes for Mexico's Vega
Mexico's "Récord" newspaper reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are among the parties in contact with Club Deportivo Guadalajara about the possibility of acquiring attacker Ernesto "Alexis Vega" Rojas.
After featuring in all three of Mexican national team trainer Gerardo Martino's starting XIs in the recent World Cup, 25-year-old El Tri attacker Alexis Vega is being touted for a potential move to Europe. A report appearing recently in Mexico's "Récord" tabloid linked the Mexico City native with Chelsea FC, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and even Germany's Borussia Mönchengladbach.
When it comes to the BMG's search for additional attacking assistance following the assumed sale of Marcus Thuram, the hottest rumor trail still leads to Croatian talent Dion Drena Beljo. Roland Virkus and the Gladbach administrative team may still be reconsidering after Beljo's club set a €6 million price tag for him.
It's also possible that Virkus & Co may wish to sign both a tall center-forward like Beljo and a more versatile attacker who can work the flanks. Vega maintains an estimated market value of some €8 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. The German foals may nevertheless be able to snatch him up for less, particularly in light of the fact that interest has tapered off from some of the other clubs.
Chelsea, according to the Mexican report, have already begun to look elsewhere. The English Wolves have, according to multiple sources, already secured the services of former Hertha BSC attacker Matheus Cunha on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid. There is some reported interest from Spanish and Dutch sides as well, but Gladbach could potentially offer the attacker more playing time.
Vega, under contract with his Mexican league side through 2024, amassed seven scorer points (three goals and four assists) in this year's Mexican Apertura. He's tallied three four times for the Mexican national team and did reasonably well stationed on the left flank for the "Aztec Warriors" in Mexico's three World Cup group stage matches.
