Kicker Report:
Augsburg's Gruezo prepares to transfer out

By Peter Weis   @PeterVicey

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that Augsburg starter Carlos Gruezo is not, and likely will not be, joining the club's training camp this January. The 27-year-old currently negotiates a move to a new, still unnamed, club.

espite starting 12 of FC Augsburg's 15 league fixtures thus far this year, Germany's Fuggerstädter apparently consider Carlos Gruezo expendable enough to accommodate a transfer request. This is likely due to the fact that FCA trainer Enrico Maaßen shall get his preferred midfield double-six setup of Arne Maier and Niklas Dorsch back from injury in time for the Bundesliga restart later this month.

According to Mario Krischel reports that the 47-times-capped Ecuadorian international is negotiating with another club. In all likelihood, Gruezo won't be continuing with Augsburg for the second half of the season. Which club this may be remains a mystery. Gruezo's odd career took him from Barça's Ecuadorian farm program to VfB Stuttgart, then over to America's MLS before his return to Germany in 2019.

Gruezo maintains an estimated market worth of €4 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. The FCA paid €1.5 million to procure him from FC Dallas in the summer of 2019.
