Carlos Gruezo's departure for FC Augsburg has been in the works for quite some time. The 27-year-old has been linked with a return to America's MLS over the last two weeks. German transfer expert Manuel Veth report that California's San Jose Earthquakes are interested in the former FC Dallas midfielder, but expansion franchise St. Louis FC (run by seasoned German footballer administrator Lutz Pfannenstiel) might first wish to exercise their rights to the player.

The U.S. League allows franchises to claim players through an American-style "draft system". Pfannenstiel's expansion club retains the first rights of refusal. If St. Louis waives the player, the Bay Area club can complete the signing. In a transfer update published on their website, Germany's preeminent footballing publication - Kicker magazine - asserts that Gruezo will definitely join the Quakes of Silicon Valley.

Having already completed five incoming transfers thus far during this window, Germany's Fuggerstädter shall have no problems allowing Gruezo to depart after three-plus seasons in Bavaria. Gruezo's current estimated market worth stands at €4 million, though a transfer can surely be finalized for well below that amount.
