Timo Werner to join Bayern München? Here's the current situation

Bayern München are in contact with Timo Werner's agent, but are still considering if they want to sign the RB Leipzig striker as there are doubts about whether he would fit in.
RB Leipzig's Timo Werner has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern München recently.

The German international fueled the speculation at the end of December when he said that "there is really only one club you can join" if you play for RB Leipzig and want to find a new club in Germany.

However, according to Sport Bild, the Bayern München bosses currently aren't sure if they want to try to bring Werner to Bavaria although they are in contact with the striker's agent, Karl-Heinz Förster.

On one hand, they believe the best German players should land at Bayern - and Werner unquestionably fits into that group. Back in 2016, the Bavarians let Leroy Sané slip through their fingers when he joined Manchester City, and they would like to avoid a similar situation in the future.

Additionally, Werner's contract situation makes him particularly interesting. The strikers's deal with RB Leipzig is set to run out in the summer of 2020, and Sport Bild estimates the 22-year-old will be available for just €40-50 million in the summer of 2019 if he tells his club that he wants to leave.

On the other hand, the Bayern bosses are concerned whether Werner would fit into the team. They think the striker is strongest on the counter when he has a lot of space and believe he wouldn't find himself in that position very often at Bayern.

Werner is also able to play on the wing, but Bayern are said to want to focus on other targets at that position.

The 22-year-old has made 21 appearances for RB Leipzig this season, scoring 13 goals and making three assists. He has netted nine times in 23 games for Germany.
