Report: Top-tier interest in Darmstadt winger grows

Speaking to Germany's main sporting tabloid, SV Darmstadt 98 winger Matthias Honsak's agent has reported that three Bundesliga sides contacted him about his client following Tuesday's Pokal fixture with Frankfurt.
After scoring a lightning quick brace against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Pokal on Tuesday, interest in Austrian winger Matthias Honsak is reportedly growing among top-tier German football clubs. At least, this is what the 26-year-old's agent was pleased to reveal to German tabloid "Sport Bild".

The 2. Bundesliga veteran has amassed 109 second division appearances and scored 15 goals for SV Darmstadt 98 and Holstein Kiel. His brace in the domestic cup on Tuesday brings his total tallies in the domestic cup up to three. While he's been out injured for most of the current campaign, Honsak also bagged a brace against SV Sandhausen last weekend.

“Three Bundesliga managers contacted me during the game against Eintracht alone, " Max Hagmayr from the consulting agency "HAGMAYR Sportmanagement" told the tabloid, "The interest from the Bundesliga is definitely there."

Chances of Bundesiga clubs acquiring Hosnak on a free after the season appear slim. The former Austrian youth international does sit on an expiring contract, but "Sport Bild" also reports that his current deal will automatically be extended in the event of promotion. Darmstadt sit atop the 2. Bundesliga table on 42 points. Chances that "the Lillies" can rejoin the top flight for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign seem good.

The report does not specify which three clubs from the German "Oberhaus" might be interested. Honsak maintains an estimated market value of €700,000 in the latest transfermarkt listings. Darmstadt purchased the player for a little over that amount in the summer of 2019.
