After catching the eye of many German football observers with his performance level this autumn and (following continued strong play) receiving more explicit recommendations for the German national team from his coach, the time has finally come for 24-year-old Mërgim Berisha. The on-loan FC Augsburg striker will get his chance to score some goals on Bundestrainer Hansi Flick's latest incarnation of die Nationalmannschaft.

Berisha is the first Augsburg player to be called up to the senior team since Felix Uduokhai. The native Bavarian could be the first FCA actor to earn playing time on the pitch since André Hahn did so in 2014. Commenting on the call-up many believed to be a long time in coming, the European U21 European Champion expressed his joy at having attained his dream.

"It's a dream that's coming true," Berisha noted in a statement, "I've worked long and hard for it, but I also know that I haven't achieved anything yet. I'm looking forward to the a challenge of proving myself in the national team."

"I would like to thank everyone who always believed in me and who always supported me," Berisha continued, "I will give everything and do everything I can to jump in and seize this opportunity."
