Sport Bild Report: Hertha talent Ullrich in Gladbach for medical

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Germany U19 captain Lukas Ullrich has travelled to Gladbach to complete his official medical today.
A transfer rumored to be in the works for nearly a year should be confirmed soon. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid claims that Hertha youth talent Lukas Ullrich - having made the decision to join the foals on a free after the season - is in North-Rhine Westphalia today to complete his medical. The 19-year-old left-back has been working his way up through the Hertha academy since 2015.

After captaining the German U19 squad in a few fixtures, the prospect has upped his estimated market worth to €750,000 in the latest transfermarkt listings. The teenager is set to follow in the footsteps of former Hertha academy left-back Luca Netz, who also made the switch to Gladbach in the summer of 2021.

Newly reinstalled Hertha trainer Pal Dardai - who is set to return to the academy this summer - recently remarked that he found the trend of Hertha developmental candidates departing the club to be quite worrisome. Dardai demonstrated his commitment to the youngsters from the reserve squads by utilizing 19-year-old Veit Stange and 17-year-old Ibrahim Maza as subs in the loss against Bayern on Sunday.

Dardai's will to give younger players more practice with the pros, it would appear arrived far too late to dissuade Ullrich from leaving. Despite a strong season for Hertha II in the Regionalliga Nordost this year, Ullrich never made a Bundesliga bench squad for either Dardai or predecessor Sandro Schwarz.
