Reports: Gladbach target French footballing duo
Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Ligue 2 midfielder Skelly Alvero and Ligue 1 striker Habib Diallo are both on Borussia Mönchengladbach's "wish list" of summer transfer targets.
A German border-town with a football club in need of some serious summer re-tooling is reportedly looking to nearby France for a pair of summer reinforcements. Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach have a great interest in acquiring FC Sochaux-Montbéliard midfielder Skelly Alvero, a French-Angolan talent also linked with FSV Mainz 05.
Alvero can be had for the exceedingly affordable sum of €1-3 million. The "Sport Bild" tabloid also reports that Gladbach have their eye on Racing Strasbourg striker Mouhamadou Habibou "Habib" Diallo as a much larger purchase. The Senegalese international joins a list of five other strikers the foals are reportedly interested in bringing in to replace Marcus Thuram.
Diallo has scored a total of 105 goals for three French clubs, FC Metz, Stade Brest, and Strasbourg. The 16-times-capped international, who helped lead Senegal to the 2022 AFCON title, would certainly not come cheap. He has an estimated market worth of €14 million in the latest transfermarkty listings.
This may yet prove affordable enough for even a cash-strapped club such as Gladbach. BMG sporting director Roland Virkus scored a major coup last week when he was able to finalize a permanent purchase of midfielder Julian Weigl, on loan from SL Benfica. Weigl was acquired for significantly less than his estimated market worth of €15 million.
Weigl's actual purchase amount, in a very rare occurrence in football, was revealed straight down to the very last cent. Benfica revealed that Gladbach paid €7,179,487.10 for the 27-year-old's services.
