Hertha updates: Leistner to return to Berlin, Ngankam headed to Frankfurt

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Hertha BSC are close to acquiring Bundesliga veteran Toni Leistner on a free.

In other Hertha-related transfer news, "Sport Bild" also reports that the sale of striker Jessic Ngankam to Eintracht Frankfurt should be completed soon.
Famous German journeyman Toni Leistner is apparently set for a return to German football. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid reports that Hertha BSC are set to acquire the 32-year-old central defender - who most recently played for Sint-Truiden in the Belgian League - on a free. Leistner represented 1. FC Union Berlin for four years in the second division after a long career spent playing for Dynamo Dresden.

The Dresden-native most recently played for Hamburger SV in the second division and was last seen in the top flight on loan at Köln from Queens Park Rangers during the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. The Charlottenburg capital city side have clearly targeted the gruff journeyman as a leadership figure.

Leistner will Service as Hertha's fifth new summer addition ahead of their coming campaign in the second division. There are still many players that the Herthaner will be looking to offload in the interest of reducing their payroll and generating some cash. One such actor, also according to "Sport Bild", is said to be on the verge of a transfer.

The tabloid claims that Hertha and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement in principle over Germany U21 striker Jessic Ngankam. The 22-year-old will head to the RheinMain metropolis for a transfer fee in the €6 million range. Sky Germany had previously reported that the two sides were far apart. The German "Boulevard Blatt" now claims that a move is imminent.
