Uduokhai opts to extend with Augsburg after all

After turning down a new deal and reportedly seeking to transfer out this summer, German youth international and Olympic representative Felix Uduokhai has opted to remain with FC Augsburg after all.
FC Augsburg confirmed a full turnaround in the case of discontented defender Felix Uduokhai on Wednesday afternoon. After turning down a contract extension earlier this summer, the 25-year-old has opted to extend in the Fuggerstadt after all. The former German youth international and Olympic representative penned a one-year-extension that will keep him in place through the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

"After I told those responsible before the training camp that I didn't want to extend my contract, things changed in my mind," Uduokhai is quoted as saying on the FCA website, "The training camp and the weeks of preparation have shown me that the changes initiated by the club are very purposeful. Great characters have been signed who are good for the team and we have a great spirit within the entire team. This convinced me to revise my decision."

"In order to be able to approach the season in a completely liberated manner and make my contribution to us playing a successful season together, I decided to extend my contract after all," Uduokhai continued in his statement, "It would have been emotionally difficult for me to give 100 percent for the FCA this season knowing that my time here would soon be over."

"It was our wish that Felix Uduokhai would stay with us and that he would extend his contract accordingly," FCA personnel boss Stefan Reuter added, ". It is all the more pleasing that he has now come to the conclusion that he wants to extend his contract. This gives us further opportunities and stability in sporting terms, but also financially."
