Goretzka admits surprise and disappointment over Germany squad exclusion

Leon Goretzka has issued a statement on his omission from the Germany squad, saying he is both disappointed and surprised.
When Germany's squad for next month's friendlies was announced earlier today, Leon Goretzka's name was not on the list.

In a social media post, the Bayern Munich midfielder has now admitted that he is disappointed and surprised by the decision to leave him out of the squad.

You know how proud I am to play for Germany. I'm extremely disappointed by the surprising decision not to be there in September," Goretzka said on Instagram.

"The last few weeks in particular have felt really good again and I was really looking forward to making my contribution to the national team so that we can get back on the road to success as a team. You all deserve it, all of Germany deserves it! At the same time, I have to accept the coach's decision and will continue to work hard every day to build on our good start to the season.

"I wish us all two successful games and look forward to seeing us all together supporting the boys at the games! We need all of you at the latest for the European Championship in our country! Thanks for your support!"
