At the end of January, Fortuna Düsseldorf announced the signing of Sampdoria striker Dawid Kownacki on loan for the rest of the season.

Apparently, Fortuna weren't the only club who wanted the striker. Speaking to Bild, Kownacki has revealed that he turned down an offer from Schalke 04, because he had already given a promise to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

"I told them that their interest was a great honor for me. But I said no, because I had already given my word to Fortuna who wanted me as the first club. And I'm an honest guy who stands by his word," Kownacki said and added:

"The pressure is not as big here. And I need playing time. As captain of the Polish under-21 national team, I really want to take part in the European Championship in the summer."

Incidentally, Kownacki could make his debut for Fortuna Düsseldorf against Schalke 04 in the DFB-Pokal tomorrow.
