Since emerging as a professional at French side Sochaux, RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konaté has always played in the central defence. But, apparently, he played further up the pitch when he was younger.

"I wasn't born a defender. I was as a midfielder for a long time and even played as a striker. And you can see that I got something out of that. It means I can move forward a bit too," Konaté explained in a recent interview with Sport Bild.

Konaté has been linked with a move to Arsenal lately. However, the centre-back, who signed a new deal until 2023 in January, recently made it clear that he isn't interested in leaving Leipzig at all.

"I feel well at the club. That's why I signed an extension. That I'm being watched by other clubs doesn't interest me. It doesn't affect me," Konaté said.

Konaté, 19, joined RB Leipzig from Sochaux on a free transfer in 2017.
