FC Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen believes Marco Reus would have thrived as his teammate at the Catalan club, but also underlines that he respects the German international's decision to stay in Dortmund.

The 29-year-old has been linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs over the years, but he has turned down every offer to stay at his childhood club.

"What kind of football does he play? It's crazy! He would have been a great player for Barcelona," ter Stegen said in an interview with DAZN and continued:

"I think more would have been possible for him club-wise, but he's happy, because he has his family in Dortmund which has always been very important to him."

"He's definitely a player who could play for any of the biggest teams, but he's also a guy - and you have to respect that - who says: 'No, I'll stay where I belong, where my family is, and where I have support'. That's an awesome decision from an awesome guy," the German international keeper said.

Reus played for Borussia Dortmund as a youth player, but began his professional career at Rot Weiss Ahlen. He joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2009 before coming home to Dortmund in 2012.
