Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Ilkay Gündogan will keep the captain's armband even if Manuel Neuer is back in the squad.

Gündogan took over the responsibility while Neuer was out with a long-term injury and will keep it despite the Bayern goalkeeper's return.

"Ilkay Gündogan remains captain. But Manu's word will continue to carry weight," Nagelsmann told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

"The captain should be a contact person for his teammates. The players should feel that they have a leader in their ranks. He's a representative of the team."
