Augsburg boss backs Thorup after Kiel drubbing

Despite Saturday's embarrassing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Holstein Kiel, Jess Thorup's job as Augsburg coach isn't in jeopardy.

2024 didn't end well for Augsburg, who have won just one of their last seven Bundesliga games. 

Saturday's 5-1 defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Holstein Kiel was a particular blow, but Jess Thorup's job as head coach remains safe. 

“We don't need to talk about the coach,” Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic told Augsburger Allgemeine.

“Jess has shown that he can be successful at Augsburg. We are not concerned with that question.” 

Augsburg go into the winter break in 13th place.
