Rampant Bayern thrash title rivals Borussia Dortmund
Bayern München are back in first place after beating title rivals Borussia Dortmund confidently in a one-sided game at Allianz Arena.
Bayern München took a step closer to winning their seventh Bundesliga title in a row by thrashing title rivals Borussia Dortmund 5-0 in Der Klassiker.
Niko Kovac's troops were dominant and in control almost from start to finish, but it was Borussia Dortmund who created the first huge chance of the game after six minutes when Marco Reus slided the ball across to Mahmoud Dahoud who hit the outside of the post.
But just four minutes later, Mats Hummels scored against his former side as he headed the ball past Roman Bürki following a corner.
And when Robert Lewandowski scored his 200th Bundesliga goal and made it 2-0 with 17 minutes on the clock after he snapped up a pass from Dan-Axel Zahadou, there was never really any doubt about the outcome of the game.
Bayern kept creating huge chances during the first half and eventually made it 3-0 five minutes before the break as Javi Martinez guided the ball past Bürki from the edge of the area.
Three minutes later, it went from bad to worse for BVB when Serge Gnabry was given space to head the ball into the net to make it 4-0 after a cross from Thomas Müller.
Bayern remained dominant all the way through the second half and rounded off a convincing performance by making it 5-0 with a few minutes left as Robert Lewandowski netted for the second time.
The result means Bayern are back in the Bundesliga's first place, one point ahead of Dortmund.
