Sven Ulreich: 'I've done a lot of things right'

Sven Ulreich says his recent call-up to the German national team is another proof that he made a good decision when he joined Bayern München from Stuttgart in 2015.

Sven Ulreich was recently called up to the German national team for the first time, replacing the injured Bernd Leno.

When asked to comment on his first inclusion in Germany coach Joachim Löw's squad, the 30-year-old told Kicker:

"That was very surprising for me. It's an honor, and I'm looking forward to the time there and want to give all I've got."

Ulreich received a lot of criticism when he joined Bayern München from VfB Stuttgart in 2015 in full awareness that he would be the second-choice goalkeeper at Allianz Arena behind Manuel Neuer.

But because Neuer has been struggling with various injuries in recent years, Ulreich has been handed plenty of first-team action, appearing 69 times for Bayern over the course of four seasons.

Unsurprisingly, the 30-year-old is very pleased with how things have developed for him at Bayern.

"When I made my decision, I always had the hope of getting to play. The years have shown how important it is for Bayern to have two strong goalkeepers. I've done a lot of things right," he said.

Ulreich made 12 appearances for Bayern in the 2018/19 season.
